The NY Times Loves Coworking
June 27, 2008
I love it when the the mainstream press picks up on the idea of coworking. It’s always encouraging.
Lisa Belkin’s NY Times article Working Alone in a Group (sub-titled A Shared Office is a Great Escape from Working at Home) is an interesting read and calls out many of the reasons we long for friends & colleagues to work with.
Working from home, Starbucks or even the local library is throwing the baby out with the bathwater, users say. You get rid of the hassle of the commute, the over-the-shoulder-boss and the mind-numbing cubicle. But if you stay home, you lose the routine, the companionship and the accountability (napping is tempting). And you spend a lot of time looking for plugs and too much money buying coffee if you go to a public space. (An ongoing dilemma is how much coffee to actually drink, because you don’t want to have to leave your laptop unattended to use the bathroom.)
It’s a fun read — and really resonates with my reasons for launching Office Space.
Coworking Featured on NPR Marketplace
May 25, 2008
The concept of coworking is gaining steam. I have a Google news alert set on the keywords coworking & co-working and I’m seeing new articles pop up every day.
The latest one here was from NPR’s Marketplace, the audio interview is below and they also have a great video excerpt as well.
One comment that really resonated with me:
It’s not just about socializing, it’s not just about hanging out. That is exactly the way that people find out where work is. So if they’re not getting out of their homes they will be truly unsuccessful.
Here come the big boys…

Rockefeller Group Business Centers has announced the opening of it’s first coworking facility at their 48 Wall Street location in NYC. I also heard rumblings that Regus has been toying with the idea in San Francisco.
While I’ll admit the competitive side of me cringes at the thought of the heavy weights getting involved. I do think there’s plenty of room for everybody at this point.

Co-Working Goes Prime Time
April 24, 2008
Organized “coworking” — the concept of working solo alongside like-minded independents — has spread to dozens of cities.
-CNN
It was only a matter of time before it’d happen. But co-working is really hitting the mainstream.
I just read a great article on CNN about the growing popularity of co-working all over the country.
This particular article focuses on the growth of co-working in Roswell, GA.
We’re seeing co-working facilities pop up all over the country. It’s inevitable that we’ll get co-working going in Northeast Ohio…whether is in Akron, Canton, Cuyahoga Falls, or Cleveland…Co-Working is coming to Ohio.
Office Space Co-Working is currently scouting locations — so if you’re wanting to get a space close to you and would like to nominate your city, PLEASE let us know!
